About
If you're searching for an authentic Spanish experience in the heart of Darmstadt, look no further than El Cid, located at Landgraf-Georg-Straße 19. This charming tapas bar beckons with its warm ambiance reminiscent of a cozy bodega, complete with decor that transports you straight to Spain. With an extensive array of tapas, it has earned rave reviews from both locals and travelers alike.
El Cid’s menu is a celebration of classic Spanish flavors. Customers rave about the dates wrapped in bacon and the cheese-baked courgette, both of which are must-tries for any diner. The highlight of the evening is often the flaming chorizo and delightful self-mixed sangria that captures the essence of Spanish cuisine perfectly. The atmosphere is perfect for sharing these delicious bites with friends, creating a lively and social dining environment that echoes the true spirit of tapas.
However, be prepared for a slower pace when it comes to service, as some reviewers have pointed out that the attentiveness can be lacking during busy evenings. While the wait can be frustrating, many diners agree that the friendly staff and rich flavors make the experience worthwhile. And do keep in mind, it’s best to make a reservation if you plan to visit with a larger group, as this hidden gem tends to fill up quickly.
Overall, El Cid is not just a restaurant; it’s a delightful escape into Spanish culinary traditions. With every dish, you can taste the dedication and love for authentic flavors. If you’re in Darmstadt, indulge in the tapas at El Cid, and let their inviting atmosphere and mouth-watering dishes transport you to another part of the world.
“ Cosy, intimate setting with selection of tapas and lovely sangria. Dates wrapped in bacon and cheese baked courgette are my favourites ”
“ Love Tapas, and they're done well. Good service, best you reserve ”
“ The restaurant is a really good place, decorated in a very original way and it has an extensive tapas menu. To be honest (I come from Spain) the tapas are the best I ever tasted in Germany for a reasonable price. However, the service was horribly slow and it is not possible paying with credit card. ”
“ It's a lovely spanish place with an old lovely flair. The tapas are very, very nice and the self mixed Sangria is delicious. Love the owners and waiters there! They are so sweet! You can come with a little group and share everything, that's so much fun! ”
“ Very nice Tapas Bar. I was there for dinner and got a table of the street outside. The inside looks like a cozy bodega, that could also be in a village in spain. I had 3 cold and 2 hot Tapas, which all were very good. The best ones were the Meat skewer and the Serrano ham. The Service was good, friendly and caring. So I will come back and can recommend this restaurant. The only thing is, you should reserve a seat, because it is small. ”
“ Classic spanish tapas! This little Restaurant has it all atmosphere, great food, nice staff and fair prices. We love to come here and order pretty much everything. Order a Sangria to your dinner and you'll be happy. I would recommend ordering the flaming chorizo, the ragu or filled mushrooms.Make sure to have a reservation if you are more than two people. And even then you have to be lucky. But it is always worth a try. ”
“ El Cod is a casual, original Tapas restaurant. It’s very typical and could be a place somewhere in Spain. We had a wide variety of Tapas (small plates) to share. Warm, cold, fish, meat, vegetables, tortilla - everything was super delicious! My son had a Paella, which he enjoyed. Making a reservation is recommended as the place is small. ”
